Vanaprastha: Mindfulness for the Elderly

Vanaprastha (वनप्रस्थ) - "retiring to the forests".  Now-a-days we don't literally leave for the forests as we age, but it is helpful to practice a form of contemplative detachment. In our youth-centric society, the elderly population is often overlooked. This is the age when we are our happiest. How?

Lesson Plan:

  • Patanjali's Yogasutras to re-visit the principles of life
  • Bhagavad Gita to learn detachment with compassion
  • Karma Yoga teaches the structure to practice detachment and uniting with the higher self
  • Metta (loving-kindness), mindfulness and Yogic meditation
